Since I started taking clients, I have always offered all-digital images, and only helped clients with prints at their request.
I have completely changed my tune.
We have taken a few trips to Disney World and Universal Studios in the past few years, and I decided to print a small book with photos of these fun vacations. The absolute joy they get looking through them has given me a renewed enthusiasm for printed pictures. I have recently subscribed to a service (Chatbooks - though I am in no way affiliated.) Once I post 60 images on Facebook or Instagram, a book is automatically compiled and mailed to me. It's so fun to look through them when they arrive, and I have a pretty stack of them on my coffee table. It takes no effort on my part, and I get a fun book every month or two.
The books are a great start. They are decent quality for my personal photos, but they aren't for clients. But I do want my clients to get the same enjoyment flipping through prints or a book that I created for them. Wouldn't it be great to have a beautifully made book on your coffee table to show family and friends?
We are at a point in time where we share online. Facebook and Instagram have replaced exchanging photos or giving out wallet-sized prints. It is reality. I share this way, and I want to provide that service to those who trust me to take their pictures. All sessions will include Facebook sized galleries of all purchased images. I want you to share them, I want your family and friends to see your beautiful children. However...in 30, 40, or 50 years, will you want to pass down a USB drive? A CD? No. Don't underestimate the value of printed photos to bring back memories and feelings that just can't be conveyed digitally.
